Tips

What do you need for your project?

Why do I need a permit?

A

Permits are often either overlooked because the contractor says that the project is small and a permit is not needed, or ignored due to the processes required to obtain one.

If you fail to get a permit for work that requires it, you can be fined. ... A building permit requires that a contractor use sound and safe methods and materials.

If you decide to move, the permit process also protects future owners. The first reason to obtain a building permit is that it's illegal not to.
